The Golden Triangles originated as a competitive Baton and Drum Corps in 1963. In their first twenty years, they made three appearances in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, won numerous State and National Championships, and were clearly the standard by which other baton corps measured themselves.
In the early 80’s, the Triangles revamped their performance format and became an exhibition twirling and dance ensemble. Since that time, the goal of the Triangles has been to entertain their audiences with material that is relevant and varied. Among their most prestigious performances since taking their new direction has been a Disney movie premier at Three Rivers Stadium.
The most select ensemble, the Seniors, is comprised of young women between the ages of fourteen and twenty-five. Their professional standards in showmanship, appearance, and dance/equipment skills are their trademark and they are one of the most sought after performing groups in the Tri-State area.
Although the Seniors are the most visible part of the organization, the ultimate mission of the Golden Triangles is to provide performing opportunities for girls of all ages and ability levels. To that end, the Triangles also have Junior (Intermediate) and Tridette (Beginner) ensembles comprised of girls between he ages of four and fourteen.
Many of the Triangle members join the organization as very young girls and remain for their entire performing career. Several Triangle graduates have pursued professional careers in dance, theater, or music. Many more have become instructors and choreographers for the Golden Triangles and/or other Pittsburgh-based organizations.
The Triangles are very proud to be in their forty-fifth year of performing. For further information, please contact us at mstanko@golden-triangles.com.
